For the past week, I have been decorating the house and thinking of ways to make this Ramadan as special as possible for my daughter especially with the mosque being closed. I want to make this month so memorable for her that she will look forward to it next year! We have been decorating since she turned one and each year, I try to come up with new traditions to keep her engaged. I believe it is crucial for Muslims to be creative and come up with ideas that will make it fun for children to learn about the month of Ramadan. These are some affordable ideas that I came up with this year.
Ramadan Calendar
I made a Ramadan Calendar! This is a fun way to do little activities with your child. The flap opens so you can reveal something new everyday. I also chose to include little prizes after each activity so that my daughter would be excited for the next day’s activity. This project only cost me $7. I purchased this beautiful printable calendar from PENCES MODERN EID on Etsy. You can find it here . I used rose gold card stock available at Micheals or any local craft store.
2. Decorate with lights
My daughter loves lights so we purchased a few from Target and added lantern, moon, and star cutouts. She asks me if she can turn them on every night. This also helped her learn that the moon is an important part of Ramadan. Now when she sees it outside, she points and says “look mama, it’s Ramadan”
3. Ramadan Books
We did not have these growing up so I was extremely happy when I saw the amount of Ramadan books for sale on Amazon. These picture books are fun to read and make it so much easier to teach!
My Daughter already loves this one. She has asked me to read it at least ten times! Also available on Amazon
4. Ramadan Activities
I found these printable activities on Etsy for only a few dollars! Purchase them here.
My daughter’s favorite things to do is coloring so I made her some Ramadan coloring pages. You can download them here for free!
If you have a child who loves to bake then you can help them make some yummy Ramadan treats. We are planning on making these beautiful ramadan cookies by Nadia. You can check out her blog for some delicious recipes!
